A New Perspective on Love

          Everyone knows 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." NIV

"Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn't want what it doesn't have. Love doesn't strut, doesn't have a swelled head, doesn't force itself on others, isn't always "me first," doesn't fly off the handle, doesn't keep score of the sins of others, doesn't revel when others grovel, takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, puts up with anything, trusts God always, never looks back, but keeps going to the end. Love never dies." MSG

I read an article a while back about putting a person's name in the place of the word love. It shows how love is supposed to be and if it doesn't fit then it's not really love. Here is the link to the article: http://www.thrivingfamily.com/Family/Stages/Tween%20Ages/2015/tween-crushes.aspx

Today I was reading over the verse and thought about it in a new way-- Put your name into the verse. That is the kind of love you should try to have. You should strive to be have that kind of love and be that kind of person for other people.

It's a lot like the Golden Rule. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." However, instead of doing it to other people, do it for the benefit of yourself. You will become a better person and you will affect those around you as well.

Instead of trying to find the perfect person, be the perfect person. Obviously, you can't be perfect because we are not capable of perfection. Be the girl you would want your daughter to be. Be the girl you would want your son to date. Be the perfect girl. Or vice versa if you're a boy.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 is a go-to when thinking about love. I encourage you to try this with your boyfriend or girlfriend's name or even just your crush's name. Are y'all really in love?
