Thanksgiving: More Than Just a Day

The smell of turkey and pumpkin pie and the sound of voices fill the house.  A day full of family, friends, and good food. Crowding around the TV to watch the parades and the football games. Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is more than just a day to be thankful for the family and friends we have, but a year long practice of giving thanks to God for all He has done in our lives. The roots of thanksgiving date back to before creation and leads up all the way to the present day. And the center of thanksgiving isn't the food, but the gratitude.
God created us with the purpose to honor Him with our lives. When Satan tricked Adam and Eve in the garden, this created unthankfulness in humanity. We often fail to be thankful in our every day lives, and we take for granted the things that God has specifically placed in our lives. We don't take the time to give thanks to Him and the people around us and show gratitude towards the things we have in our lives.
We have so many things to be thankful for: our physical and spiritual gifts. God gives us so many things here on earth such as friends, family, and a new day. He also gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ and holds a place for us in Heaven. God craves our affection and longs for fellowship with us. He does everything for us whether we acknowledge His works or not.
After all that God does for us, the least we could do is give thanks and gratitude to Him. I challenge you to not only celebrate today, but to continually live with a thankful and grateful attitude.
Happy Thanksgiving! I am thankful for you!
